Basic Information about Iceland

Iceland is for its harsh winters and its snowy landscapes, but it is also a country full of surprises. Here are some practical ideas to help you prepare your trip

Language

The official language is the Icelandic. It is known to be one of the most difficult language in the world.

Electricity

Electrical outlets are the same than in Europe, so If you live in the UK or in The US you'll need an adaptor.

Jet Lag 

In summer there are 2 hours of time difference between Iceland and France and 1  in winter. When it is 10am in Paris it is 8 or 9 am in Reykjavik.

Airline Tickets

Depending on the season, the price of the ticket varies enormously. It can range from 300 € to 600 € or more in summer. The price depends of course on the company borrowed but also the booking period.

Health

No precautions in health is needed to travel to Iceland. For Europeans you can bring your European health card for you to repay your possible medical expenses.

Entry Requirements

For Europeans, for stays of less than 3 months in Iceland, an identity card or a valid passport at least 3 months after the stay is enough. However, the passport is preferred. Canadians do not need either a visa, only a valid passport three months after the return date. For more information, visit the government website.
