Vocabulary
The official langage is Icelandic, it looks like other Scandinavian languages like Danish, Norwegian, which which it shares common origins.
A Germanic language
This language changed very little since its origins. Founded with the arrival of the first colonists in th 10 and 11 th century, it has survived until nowadays without major changes.
Another specificity, its alphabet is different from ours with two additional letters ð and Þ and lots of accents.
Use and vocabulary
The Icelandic is not an easy language to learn, with rather guttural sounds that are difficult to perceive. By the way try to pronounce the name of the volcano that awoke in 2010 :

It is recommended to learn a few polite worlds such as hello, thank you, etc… These words are pretty easy to remember and it is always nice to local people. But if you really can’t, remember that most Icelanders, young and old, speak English very fluently.
